With more than 35 years of industry experience, Joe has extensive expertise in safety, operations, environmental management, engineering, risk management, remediation, and operating management systems.

As VP of Safety & Operations at BP, he established operating management systems for a diverse set of operating businesses including renewable energy. He provided deep technical expertise in due diligence and assessment of complex operating facilities and joint ventures worldwide. This included risk management expertise in operations, engineering, process safety, and environmental for oil & gas trading ventures, third party facilities, and major projects.

Furthermore, Joe has extensive experience in environmental liability management, remediation, and regulatory affairs related to large oil & gas facilities. This includes strategy development & planning, regulatory advocacy, major construction, sustainable remediation and restoration. His progressive and innovative management of a complex portfolio of refinery and chemical sites, with a total liability of $500m, led to the recognition of his company at the national level and the receipt of USEPA’s Leadership Environmental Award.

Joe led major downstream oil & gas capital projects as well as large engineering & maintenance organizations in refining, pipelines, and terminals. These organizations provided expertise in all engineering disciplines, integrity management, inspection, risk assessment, construction, and regulatory compliance.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC – Berkeley. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer.
